History

A heritage of Italian comfort and innovation

The idea behind Calzuro footwear was born in Padua, Italy. Its founder noticed that healthcare workers had no footwear that was both hygienic and comfortable enough for long shifts.

In 1983 he created a clog from an innovative copolymer blend — a material that can be sterilised in an autoclave, does not build up static electricity and stays exceptionally comfortable all day. The medical community recognised the innovation immediately, and Calzuro began to spread around the world.

Today Calzuro footwear is chosen by healthcare workers, kitchen professionals and everyone who spends most of the day on their feet — in Italy, the United States and across the world.

The journey

Four decades of refinement

From the first autoclavable clog to a wide range of models and colours — Calzuro has grown alongside the professionals who rely on it every day.

1983The first Calzuro clog in autoclavable copolymer is created in Padua — a new standard for medical footwear.

1987International distribution begins — Calzuro enters foreign markets and becomes a recognised name in hospitals.

Every year hundreds of millions of pairs of shoes are thrown away worldwide, breaking down in landfill and releasing harmful substances into the environment for decades.

Calzuro takes a different approach: the footwear is made from a recyclable material, so worn-out clogs can be recycled rather than discarded. Longevity is part of sustainability too — a well-made clog lasts a year, not a season.
